Every Smile Starts With an Initial Consultation!
At your first visit to Skylands Orthodontics you will become acquainted with the office and team members and receive a thorough orthodontic examination from Dr. Krystian. If the exam reveals that you are a candidate for treatment, then orthodontic records (medical and dental histories, digital casts of the teeth, digital photographs of the face and teeth and digital x-rays of the jaws and head) will be needed. These records help to confirm the clinical diagnosis and determine the personalized treatment plan. The records also provide a benchmark to use in measuring treatment progress.
If it is determined that immediate treatment is not needed (for example, the patient is too young or is in need of other dental treatment first) then you’ll be placed on recall to observe growth and development and await the ideal time to start orthodontic treatment. We will time the start of treatment to achieve the best result possible in the most timely manner. Different types of orthodontic problems are best treated at different stages of growth and development. The clinical exam is needed to determine this timing.
Our team will be glad to answer any questions you may have, and we will provide all of the information that you need to determine which treatment is right for you.
You’re One Step Closer to Achieving the Smile You’ve Always Wanted!
On the day you get your appliances (braces, expanders, clear aligners, etc.), the appointment usually takes from 30 to 90 minutes. You’ll then see us at regular intervals 4-8 weeks apart for an adjustment, which takes 15 to 30 minutes. Routine appointments for appliance adjustment can usually be made before or after school. Long appointments for construction, repair, or cementation of appliances are scheduled in the morning or early afternoon.
Scheduling Appointments
Visiting the orthodontist about every four to eight weeks is an important part of your orthodontic treatment. Our practice will work with you to make sure that your appointments are as convenient as possible. When scheduling appointments, please let us know what days and times work best for you.
We understand that “life happens”! If you’re running late or need to reschedule, please let us know and we will do everything we can to accommodate you. When you’re ready to schedule your first appointment, contact our practice and our friendly scheduling coordinator will assist you. We’re looking forward to working with you.
Visiting the Dentist During Orthodontic Treatment
It is very important that you continue to visit your family dentist once every six months, even during your orthodontic treatment, for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups. If extra dental care is needed we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure that you are receiving the best care possible.
